Friday, April 13, 2018

On his second day in Lima, where he arrived to participate in the VIII Summit of the Americas, Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero met his peers from Argentina and Brazil, Jorge Faurie and Aloysio Nunes.

With both ministers, the Secretary of State discussed the agenda for the visits he will make in two more weeks to these countries, together with the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera. The President will meet with his peers Mauricio Macri of Argentina and Michel Temer of Brazil.

In addition to the aforementioned meetings, Minister Ampuero held an intense agenda of meetings on Friday in Lima.

First thing this Friday, he was with the Venezuelan parliamentarians Luis Florido and Sergio Vergara. With both of them, he analysed the political and social crisis in that country. Subsequently, the Secretary of State pointed out that "it is important for Chile that there are free elections, with guarantees for all, without politicians prevented from participating, otherwise these elections will be illegitimate and will not be recognised by the international community".

Later, Foreign Minister Ampuero met with the Executive Director for the Americas of the European External Action Service, Edita Hrdá; the Director for Latin America of the World Economic Forum, Ambassador Marisol Argueta; and representatives of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights.

In the afternoon, the Secretary of State accompanied the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, in bilateral meetings with the Presidents of Peru, Martín Vizcarra; and Canada, Justin Trudeau.
