Joint statement regarding the situation in Nicaragua

The Governments of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Paraguay and Peru express their concern and deplore the acts of violence that have taken place in Nicaragua in recent days, which have caused many deaths and injuries.
They also express their condolences and solidarity with the victims of violence and their families.
At the same time, they urgently call on all sectors to put an end to the confrontation and to cease the acts of violence. In particular, they call on the security forces to exercise their powers with the utmost prudence in order to avoid the excessive use of force and an escalation of the crisis, thus creating a climate that will restore both peace and dialogue, which are essential to overcome this grave situation.
