Chancellor Ampuero values invitation to Chile to participate in G20 summit in Japan

Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero described as "great news" the invitation made by Japan for Chile to participate in the G20 summit to be held next year in that Asian nation.

"This is a very important gesture on the part of Japan and the G20 community because it shows that Chile is an important player on the international arena, that its voice, its opinion and its experience matter, that Chile is appreciated and heard," said the Foreign Minister.

This is the third time the country has been invited to participate in a G20 summit. In 2012 it we were invited by Mexico and this year it was Argentina. "In all these opportunities it has been up to President Sebastián Piñera to represent our country," the Minister explained.

The Secretary of State also recalled that next year Chile will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC) and that in 2020 it will host the UN summit against Climate Change, COP 25. "Chile thus demonstrates that it participates actively in international politics and in the multilateral dimension," he said.

The G20 is an international forum for economic, financial and political cooperation that brings together the 20 main world powers, who tackle the major global challenges with the aim of generating public policies to resolve them.

The European Union and 19 industrialized and emerging countries belong to it: Germany, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, South Korea, United States, France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom, Russia, South Africa and Turkey. These countries account for 85% of global gross product, two-thirds of the world's population, 75% of international trade and 80% of global investment.
