Friday, August 24, 2018

Foreign Minister Roberto Ampuero participated today in the third meeting of the Interministerial Committee on Human Rights, which aimed to review the National Human Rights Plan. The event was led by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Hernán Larraín, and was also attended by the Minister of Education, Marcela Cubillos; the Undersecretary of the Interior, Rodrigo Ubilla; and the Undersecretary of Human Rights, Lorena Recabarren.

"The fact that eight ministries were represented shows how important the issue of human rights is for the government of President Sebastián Piñera," said the Foreign Minister at the end of the meeting.

The Secretary of State stressed that the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the plan is related to everything that is important for the country in terms of international agreements, modernizations and what can contribute to greater justice, equity, women's empowerment and respect for diversity, in addition to everything that Chile can bring to the world in terms of its experience in advancing human rights.

Also present were representatives of the Ministry of Social Development, Women and Gender Equality, Defence and the General Secretariat of the Presidency.
