Chile participates in the launch of the Coalition for Equal Rights
The Secretary-General for Foreign Policy, Ambassador Gloria Navarrete, participated today in the Global Launch of the Strategy of the Intergovernmental Coalition for Equal Rights (ERC), of which Chile has been a part since 2016 and which she co-chaired joined by Canada, between 2017 and 2019.
The ERC is a group made up of 42 countries, which works together with civil society, cooperation agencies, and international organizations, to facilitate the exchange of information and good practices, with the purpose of recommending policies and actions that promote and protect rights. human rights and the lives of LGBTI + people, as well as inclusive development around the world.
In this sense, under the current co-presidency of the ERC, which is exercised by Argentina and the United Kingdom, the first strategy of the Coalition and a five-year action plan were developed, which aim to increase international action to promote and protect their human rights.
In this context, Ambassador Navarrete participated in the High-Level Segment of said instance and committed Chile's participation in the International Diplomacy Working Group, to multilaterally promote the decriminalization of LGBTI + people, as well as the eradication of the death penalty and conversion therapies.
Ambassador Navarrete ended her speech by reaffirming Chile's commitment to this coalition and to the promotion and protection of the rights of all people, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or sexual characteristics.
