Joint Statement on meeting between presidents of Chile and France
The President of the Republic of Chile, Mr. Sebastián Piñera and the President of the French Republic, Mr. Emmanuel Macron, met on Monday October 8 in Paris, as part of an official visit to France.
This meeting was an opportunity for both Presidents to highlight the richness of our bilateral relationship, particularly in the economic and scientific fields. Chile is currently the second South American client of France, which plays an important economic role in that country, especially in sectors of the future of the Chilean economy such as renewable energy, infrastructure and transport. Both Presidents agreed to continue intensifying our economic and commercial exchanges as well as to place special emphasis on the development of our cooperation in the area of innovation.
Both Presidents insisted on reaffirming their common attachment to the values of democracy and multilateralism in the face of the threats that affect them. They decided to develop their political dialogue on the main international challenges of common interest, in particular the fight against climate change and the defence of the multilateral trading system. They also shared their analyses and concerns about the crisis in Venezuela and its consequences for the region.
Both Heads of State adopted a joint declaration on a bilateral roadmap consisting of operational actions aimed at strengthening Franco-Chilean relations, in particular on the challenges of the future.
