Foreign Minister meets ASEAN Ambassadors in Chile
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, met with the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Philemon Arobaya; Vietnam, Nguyen Ngoc Son; Thailand, Sarikan Pholmani; and the Chargé d'Affaires of the Philippines, Marcos A.S. Punsalang and Malaysia, Suria Hani Jahaya.
The meeting was held at the invitation of the Diplomatic Corps of the States of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations accredited in Chile.
During the meeting, the Chancellor gave an account of Chile's relationship with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which began with the accreditation of Chile's first Ambassador to ASEAN in 2011. Since then the relationship has evolved to such an extent that President Piñera was a special guest at the 33rd ASEAN Summit in Singapore in November.
In this regard, the Minister reiterated the gratitude and honor that such an invitation signified and reminded ASEAN representatives of Chile's interest in becoming a Development Partner of the bloc.
Both the Chancellor and the representatives of the Asian embassies agreed on the need to strengthen cultural ties.
