Director-General for Consular and Immigration Affairs heads briefing on Migration Bureau and Disaster Risk Management

The Director General of Consular Affairs and Immigration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, Raúl Sanhueza Carvajal, chaired the briefing on the Migration and Disaster Risk Management Roundtable, composed of the National Office of Emergencies (ONEMI), the Department of Immigration and Migrations (DEM) of the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The meeting, held at the Diplomatic Academy of Chile, was attended by representatives of the consular body accredited in Chile from the countries with the largest presence of nationals in our country: Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Haiti, Peru, Dominican Republic and Venezuela, in addition to representatives of the Municipalities of Maipú, Independencia, Santiago, Peñalolén, Central Station and officials of the Investigative Police (PDI).

Among the points discussed at the meeting were the introduction to the National Civil Protection System, management platforms and risk variables in Chile.

"As Chancellery we are working, since 2017, together with ONEMI and DEM to promote a preventive culture and provide adequate responses to the migrant population in Chile," said Raúl Sanhueza, General Director of Consular Affairs and Immigration of the Chancellery.

The objective was to inform attendees about the guidelines of the National Civil Protection System, which is composed of agencies, services and institutions, both public and private sector, including voluntary entities and organized community, under the coordination of the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of Interior and Public Security, ONEMI.

The importance of the National Civil Protection System is to ensure the protection of people, their property and the environment in the face of a situation of collective risk, be it of natural origin or generated by human activity.

Also participating in the activity were the National Director (S) of the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of the Interior, Cristóbal Mena and the Director of Consular Services of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alejandro Bravo.
