Chile reiterates its concern at acts of violence in Nicaragua

The Government of Chile reiterates its deep concern at the violence that is taking place in Nicaragua, which has already cost the lives of more than 100 people and left a thousand injured.

Chile hopes that the Nicaraguan Government will comply with the 15 recommendations made by the Rapporteur of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) during her recent visit to that country and with the provisions of the Declaration adopted by the foreign ministers of the region during the 48th session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States.

It also expresses its support for the resumption of the process of dialogue between the Government and civil society, under the mediation of the Episcopal Conference, in order to reach a peaceful solution to the crisis affecting this sister country.
