Chile and the European Union agree to seek convergence to the crisis in Venezuela.

Tuesday, 12 March 2019

The European Union valued the role that Chile is playing to reach a solution to the crisis that Venezuela is going through. This was expressed by the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of this organization, Federica Mogherini, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, in a meeting held today in New York.

The Chancellor stated that during the meeting, the EU High Representative highlighted "the role that Chile is playing in the search for convergence and agreed that it is important to act in this direction." Also, "he highlighted the role of the diplomatic bridge that Chile is playing in the Venezuelan crisis." For Minister Ampuero, this shows that "Chile is very active at the multilateral level, seeking a peaceful, political and constitutional solution to the crisis in this sister country."

Subsequently, the Secretary of State met with the President of the Security Council and French Ambassador to the United Nations, François Delattre, with whom he also discussed the crisis in Venezuela.
