Chile and Germany pledge to strengthen ties during meeting between President Piñera and Chancellor Merkel

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, participated today in a meeting between the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, in Berlin.

At the meeting, the authorities advanced the talks to modernize the free trade agreement between Chile and the European Union, in order to expand it to more products and turn it into a treaty that also extends to collaboration in science, technology and political cooperation.

"We had a very good working meeting, we moved towards a new stage in relations between Chile and the European Union, with the modernization of the agreement that is in force and that we want to strengthen and perfect," said the President in a joint statement with Chancellor Merkel.

In addition, he thanked the Chancellor's willingness to "strengthen ties between Germany and Chile, with a single objective: to improve opportunities, the quality of life of our nations".
