Saturday, November 17, 2018

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Ampuero, participated together with the President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera, in the bilateral meeting he held with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping.

At the meeting, President Piñera raised with the Chinese leader the need to defend free trade. This topic was the central axis of the conversation, considering that in the first semester of 2018, the commercial exchange between Chile and China reached US$20.834 million.

"Chile and China share the same vision regarding free trade and the need to continue strengthening trade agreements amid voices that seek to strengthen protectionism. Both countries are strategic partners in terms of economic and commercial interests, as our objective is to guarantee open, free and fair trade," said the Foreign Minister after the meeting.

Previously, the Secretary of State attended the closing ceremony of the CEO Summit and accompanied the President in the dialogue between APEC Leaders and leaders from the Pacific Islands.
