Thursday, 29 August 2019
Beijing, August 29, 2019 - The day began with activities to promote, among Chinese businessmen and investors, the opportunities offered by Chile to our main commercial partner. The opening ceremony was attended by the head of the delegation, former president and special ambassador for Asia Pacific, Eduardo Frei, the Chilean Ambassador to China, Luis Schmidt, the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yañez, the general director of ProChile, Jorge O'Ryan, the director of InvestChile, Cristian Rodríguez, the vice-president of Corfo, Pablo Terrazas and the director of Sernatur, Andrea Wolleter.

In the activity, the authorities poured golden sand on the letters of Chile Week Beijing, symbol of the permanent and bright future of the relationship between the two countries. The ambassador also introduced the famous Chinese actress Ye Qing, as ambassador of Chile Week 2019, who, with her more than 8 million followers in social networks, will support the dissemination of the country's activities and attributes in China.

One high points of the day was the business meeting organized by ProChile, in which 22 companies exporting products such as honey, wine, cheese, olive oil, juices and fruits, among others, held around 180 bilateral meetings with potential clients. "This is the real sense of this activity, to bring Chilean businessmen closer to their Chinese counterparts and to be able to achieve in the medium term, businesses that will not only contribute to the growth of these companies, but also of the country, since an exporting company generates one million 200 thousand direct jobs", said Jorge O'Ryan, general director of ProChile.

Among the activities, he highlighted the seminar "APEC@30: a public-private approach to regional integration", in which the Undersecretary of International Economic Relations, Rodrigo Yáñez, explained that in the year of the Forum in Chile and under the theme "Connecting people, building the future", there is a valuable opportunity for intersectoral collaboration and the exchange of opinions and ideas on how to deepen regional economic integration.

"APEC can once again be a key driver for strengthening the global trade architecture. Our economic success is due to the opening of markets and international integration. We are also aware that APEC's collaborative and consensus-building approach continues to determine how we understand trade and investment," explained Rodrigo Yáñez.

Also important was the meeting of Agriculture Minister Antonio Walker with Chinese General Customs Minister Ni Yuefeng, where the final details of the upcoming opening to Chilean citrus in China were discussed, which will be signed by the presidents of both countries at the upcoming APEC summit in Chile. "Our Chinese peers gave great news. We are going to be able to export to China the by-products of cattle and sheep, in addition to frozen meats. Along with that, we left the talks started to enter the shelled almonds and see alfalfa, a product so important for peasant family agriculture," Walker said.

Likewise, InvestChile seminar on investment opportunities in Lithium, Energy and Transport was held, and brought together more than 210 representatives of Chinese companies.

Tomorrow's activities will continue with a focus on connecting Chilean entrepreneurs with the trends and consumption habits of the Chinese public.
