Its function is to implement the instruments of Human Security, Public or Citizen Security of which our country is a State Party or signatory, including all those whose aim is to prevent and combat terrorism, organized transnational crime in all its manifestations, the global problem of drugs and corruption. This task includes the interrelation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with other Ministries, Public Services, institutions, agencies, organizations and units which have the responsibility of implementing those instruments.

Promotes multilaterally, from the Foreign Policy perspective, the paradigm of Human Security and leads the action of Chile within the Human Security Network and the Group of Friends of Human Security.

Preserves, from the Foreign Policy perspective, the security of electronic communications including cyber security.
