Switzerland granted its agrément to Carlos Schaerer as new Ambassador of Chile

The Swiss Confederation granted its agrément to the appointment of Carlos Schaerer Jiménez as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile to that country.

Carlos Schaerer Jiménez is a lawyer from Universidad de Chile. In 1993 he joined the group “El Mercurio” as a member of the Editorial Board and editor of Letters and Opinion. Between September 1998 and September 2000 he worked as director of El Mercurio de Valparaíso newspaper. Later, from October 2000 to September 2002, he was director responsible for Las Últimas Noticias newspaper in Santiago.

In early 2000, Ambassador Schaerer became President of the National Press Association (ANP), a position he left in 2004 when he became President of the Press Foundation.

In 2010 he was appointed Deputy Director of El Mercurio newspaper, a position he held until the moment of his appointment as representative of Chile in Switzerland.

Carlos Schaerer will succeed in the position Ambassador Melkonian, who passed away in January 2013.
