The Peruvian Minister of Culture, Luis Alberto Peirano, the Chilean Ambassador to Peru, Favio Vio, and the Commercial Director of ProChile in that country, Camilo Navarro, were present at the opening of the Chilean Stand at the 18th version of the International Book Fair of Lima, where our country will have an outstanding presence thanks to the participation of authors Álvaro Bisama, Cecilia García Huidobro, Raúl Zurita and Andrea Jeftanovic.

Chile’s pavilion will feature a selection of works provided by the partners of Cámara Chilena del Libro (Chilean Book Chamber), Editores de Chile and Furia del Libro, which were convened by the Directorate of Export Promotion (ProChile) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, who invited them to participate in the book show which is part of the international fair circuit that annually organizes it. This participation includes transport logistics from Santiago to Lima, book exhibition and sale, a pavilion of 54 m2, promotional material and commercial contacts, among other benefits.

“As Chilean Book Chamber it is an honor to be able to take the best of Chilean literature to top international events such as the International Book Fair of Lima,” said Paulina Retamales, General Manager of the guild.

“This year we have great participation of publishers and we are taking more than 500 titles, which means a wide and varied sample of the national industry, reinforced by the presence of prominent writers, who will visit the stand to talk to readers and sign books,” she added.

With regard to the internationalization of Chilean literature, the Commercial Director of ProChile in Peru, Camilo Navarro, said that Latin America is the natural market for the national publishing industry. “There we seek to internationalize the industry, strengthen the image of Chile, export its identity and position ourselves as a promoter of books and writing at an international level. Peru is one of the priority markets in the international fair circuit of international promotion of the Chilean publishing sector.”

“ProChile’s support to the publishing sector is part of the promotion of creative industries in the country, which translates into the export of value-added products, talent and creativity,” he added.

Every year the Chilean publishing industry produces nearly 6,000 new books of national authors in areas such as literature, education, social sciences and various academic disciplines, in addition to a large number of technical books linked to the most developed productive sectors in the country.

The fair, whose guest country this year is Puerto Rico, will take place at the Parque de los ´Próceres de Jesus María and will be open until 4 August.
