Press release on the passing of President Mandela
Comparte :

The Chilean Government deeply regrets the death of Nelson Mandela, iconic leader in the fight against apartheid and President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999.

Despite suffering injustice for decades and being incarcerated for 27 years, once released from prison, Nelson Mandela led the talks to establish a democratic and multiracial system in his country.  His life example taught not only the South African people but mankind as a whole that, as he used to say, forgiveness liberates the soul.

Laureated with the Nobel Peace Prize, his death represents the loss of an extraordinary man who dedicated his life to achieving freedom, dignity and democracy for his people.

The Chilean Government wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family, the Government and the people of South Africa.
