President Piñera chairs meeting of the National Security Council at La Moneda Palace

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alfredo Moreno, attended the meeting that the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, held this morning with the National Security Council at La Moneda Palace.

The Council was convened to discuss  the legal  background to our country's defense against the maritime border complaint that Peru filed with the International Court of Justice in The Hague, on the eve of  the court's  judgment  announced for next Monday, January 27.

"All the members have appreciated the convening of a Council that brings together the main branches of government, several heads of main institutions and which works as an advisor to the President of Chile, They have also endorsed the steps taken all these years to defend the interests of Chileans through legal defense, legal means and the defense of Chilean borders," said Foreign Minister Moreno.

The meeting was attended by the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies , Jorge Pizarro and Edmundo Eluchans, respectively; the President of the Supreme Court, Sergio Muñoz; the Commanders- in- Chief of the Armed Forces: Juan Miguel Fuente-Alba, Army;  Enrique Larrañaga, Navy; Jorge Rojas, Air Force; and Gustavo González, Director General of Carabineros. Also present were Ramiro Mendoza, Comptroller General of the Republic; Andrés Chadwick, Minister of the Interior and Public Security; Rodrigo Hinzpeter, Minister of Defense; Felipe Larraín, Minister of Finance; and Félix de Vicente, Minister of Economy.
