On the instructions of President Michelle Bachelet, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, announced this morning the appointment of Milenko Skoknic as the new Consul General of Chile in Bolivia.

"We are confident in Ambassador Skoknic's experience, who has served at the Embassy of Chile in Argentina and as Chef de Cabinet to the former Foreign Minister," said Minister Muñoz while making this announcement.  "[Skoknic] has a long-standing diplomatic career so he will be a great Consul General; he will represent our country's consular and economic interests well and will lead the relationship with Bolivia through the best possible path."

Skoknic, who currently serves as Ambassador of Chile in Argentina, has been Ambassador of Chile to Austria, Slovenia and Slovakia (2005-2010) and Permanent Representative of Chile to the International Organizations based in Vienna (IAEA, UNODC, UNIDO, CTBTO, UNOOSA, UNCITRAL, among others).    Previously, he had a prominent role as executive director of the Organizing Committee of the APEC Leaders' Summit, held in Chile in 2004, and as a companion to the Peace Talks between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia - FARC.

Ambassador Skoknic's posts within the Foreign Service also include the Mission of Chile to the United Nations, New York, and the Chilean embassies to the Holy See and Turkey. Moreover, he has been Consul General of Chile in Toronto and Commercial Attaché in Canada.

The next Consul in Bolivia joined the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy in 1979. Later, he earned a British Council scholarship and pursued a Diploma course in Foreign Policy and International Economics at St. Antony's College, Oxford University, U.K.
