The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alfredo Moreno, met this evening with the Director of the Pan American Health Organization, Doctor Clarissa Etienne.
The senior officials reviewed the possibility of making Chile a strategic partner of the Pan American Health Organization particularly for South-South cooperation, Chile can be a significant key player providing technical cooperation to the countries in the region and other regions worldwide.
PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) is an international public health agency, whose primary objective is to assist countries through the Ministries of Health, social security institutions and other governmental and non-governmental agencies to strengthen national and local health systems. It is also the specialized organization for health of the Inter-American System and the Regional Office for the Americas of the World Health Organization (WHO).
One of the latest agreements signed between our country and PAHO/WHO was the “Strategic Agenda for Technical Cooperation 2011-2014,” which is aimed at the preparation and implementation of technical cooperation programs of both organizations with Chile.
Doctor Clarissa Etienne took office as Director of PAHO in February 2013 for a 5-year period, succeeding Doctor Mirta Roses who held the position since 2003.
The meeting was also attended by Undersecretary of Assistance Networks, Luis Castillo.
