On May 22 and in a pioneering activity of the Foreign Ministry in regions, a delegation composed by the Head of the Regional Coordination Directorate, Jorge Beals and representatives of the DIGECONSU, DISIN, DIGENMULTI and AGCI, was received by the plenary of the City Council of Antofagasta.

During the meeting, chaired by Mayor Karen Rojo, they discussed various topics of interest for the City Council of Antofagasta including immigration policies, combating drugs and human trafficking, dissemination of CELAC summits, decentralized cooperation and possible collaboration in terms of international affairs between the Foreign Ministry and Antofagasta.

Similarly, on Friday 24 there was an International Dissemination Seminar attended by regional authorities and representatives of educational, social and business sectors. This seminar, inaugurated by Antofagasta’s Provincial Governor Constantino Zafirópulos, conducted a more in-depth review of these important issues for the regional body.

Both activities are part of the 2013 Program for the International Insertion of Regions led by DICORE, whose main objective is to support the management of regional and local governments on international relations.

The work agenda in the Antofagasta Region was complemented with visits organized by the Regional Director of ProChile, Jacqueline Farías, to the premises of the “Agua Marina” biomining company, winner of the ProChile Contact contest, and to “Austin Ingenieros Chile,” which is dedicated to the construction of hoppers and other equipment for large-scale mining, both with high export potential.
