The Government of Chile congratulates the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) on the well-deserved recognition it received from the Norwegian Nobel Committee, which granted  it the Nobel Peace Prize for its "efforts to eliminate chemical weapons worldwide."

This award is a vote of confidence in the OPCW and renewed support to the work of multilateralism and international legal instruments in search of political and peaceful solutions to conflicts.

Chile signed the Chemical Weapons Convention on January 14, 1993, and the Convention entered into force on April 29, 1997. Our country was one of the first promoters and signatories of this major international agreement, in its capacity as a member of the OPCW Executive Council.
