Ambassador Ricardo Fiegelist Schmidt passes away

The funeral of Ambassador Ricardo Fiegelist Schmidt, who died during the early hours of last Thursday, took place after a Mass conducted at midday at Our Lady of the Angels Church and was   attended by authorities and officials of the Foreign Ministry.

Until the day of his death, Ambassador Fiegelist was serving as Director of Administrative Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, a position he assumed in 2010.

Ricardo Fiegelist was a public relations officer and graduated from the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy in 1974.

During his diplomatic career abroad, we should note his tenure as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Chile to Syria between 2005 and 2010. His first posts enabled him to fulfill functions at the Consulates of Chile in Bonn (Germany), Ushuaia (Argentina) and later as Consul General in Miami (United States), Rio Gallego (Argentina), San Juan (Puerto Rico), Shanghai (People's Republic of China) and Lima (Peru). He also served at the Chilean embassies in Costa Rica and Haiti.

His work experience within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs included various positions, such as the Chef de Cabinet of the Directorate General of Foreign Policy and the General Administrative Directorate. He was also Director of Consular Services, Consular Policy and Director General of Consular Affairs and Immigration.

During the ceremony and on behalf of the Foreign Ministry, Undersecretary Alfonso Silva conveyed his condolences to the family and underlined the great work that the ambassador carried out in the institution, highlighting his professional track record and his special vocation for public service.
