The Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Edgardo Riveros and Vice-Minister Marcos Robledo will travel to Buenos Aires to participate in the XXVI Meeting of the Chile-Argentina Permanent Security Committee, to be held in that city on August 19.

The Permanent Security Committee (COMPERSEG) – a mechanism created in 1995 in the framework of the commitment acquired in the 1984 Treaty of Peace and Friendship – convenes the political authorities of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of both countries, and its purpose is to establish a working agenda that permits to strengthen cooperation on security and defense.

Because of its frequency and constant monitoring of the binational issues of defense and security, COMPERSEG has become an important instrument in building trust between Chile and Argentina and a fundamental tool for developing, through political dialogue, convergent positions Argentina in the hemispheric, regional and neighborhood levels. The COMPERSEG represents a clear example of the strong relationship attained by both countries.
