The Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Edgardo Riveros, received in courtesy visit the new Ambassador of Malaysia to Chile, Mohamad Rameez Bin Yahaya, who recently presented his letters of credence as the new representative of the Asian nation to our country.
On the occasion, the Under-Secretary, together with welcoming the new Malaysian diplomat and wishing him success on his new duties, he stressed the importance of Malaysia as a referent in the effort of Chile to deepen its rapprochement to Asia as a whole and especially to the Association of Southeast Nations (ASEAN), which presidency this year will be held by this country.
At this level, he valued the coordination that has existed between Chile and Malaysia in the framework of the APEC, which Summit just concluded in Manila, as well as in the negotiations of the TPP, also emphasizing the positive joint work of both countries in its coincidence in 2015 as permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
In the bilateral context, the national authority stressed the purpose of Chile to strengthen its political, cultural, scientific, economic and commercial ties with Malaysia, as well as to increase the cooperation in the different areas of mutual interest, being one of them the Halal international certification, especially relevant for our export sector.
For his part, Ambassador Rameez Bin Yahaya expressed his satisfaction for beginning in Chile his first diplomatic mission in Latin America and for the good level reached in the bilateral relations, which he will seek to deepen in the areas of cooperation and investments in the industry, telecommunications, mining and agriculture sectors, among others.
