The Government of Chile welcomes with satisfaction the agreement reached in Vienna by the Islamic Republic of Iran and the E3 + 3 group (Germany, China, the United States, Russia, France, the UK and the EU) to resolve discrepancies in the scope and projections of the Iranian nuclear program, while upholding the right of all States Parties to the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) to benefit from the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

The significant elements of the agreement provide verification that will allow the building confidence between the parties, preserving the integrity of multilateral non-proliferation regime, strengthening the role of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and allowing for greater cooperation to preserve peace and stability in the Middle East. The lifting of sanctions affecting Iran will have various benefits.

The agreement also reaffirmed the value of diplomatic negotiation in a multilateral format to address and resolve issues with major impact on regional and global security. The parties' perseverance and willingness to harmonize the various interests involved is highly commendable.

As part of the Board of Governors of the IAEA, which our country is a part of until 2016, as well as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council until the end of this year, Chile will provide full support to the effective and smooth implementation of this agreement that strengthens international security.
