This afternoon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, participated in the 2015 military parade, a traditional ceremony of the Republic of Chile that honors the Glories of the Army and that is part of the activities for the 205th anniversary of the independence of Chile.

The parade, offered by the Armed Forces and the Police at O'Higgins Park, was attended by the highest authorities of the three branches of government, headed by the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet.

Foreign Minister Muñoz emphasized the importance of the activity, especially after the earthquake in northern Chile on September 16: "The military parade is always special and important. In a time of national unity because of the disaster from the earthquake and tsunami, I think a parade like this helps national cohesion. Support for national unity is important in times like this as we await a ruling [from the International Court of Justice in The Hague]," he said.

The Secretary of State spoke to the media about the upcoming ruling in The Hague, the result that he will wait for with President Bachelet on Thursday September 24th. "Our spirits are serene, calm, and confident. We have done everything necessary to defend our national interest. This is a procedural ruling, an initial decision; we hope the case ends here, but we are prepared for any eventuality," he remarked.

Regarding international aid following the earthquake and tsunami in the north, the Foreign Minister recalled that Banco Estado has already enabled two accounts for contributions: No. 4545 for deposits in Chilean pesos; and No. 108029501, to receive donations in US dollars.

"On Monday, the Chinese Embassy will bring a contribution and we are waiting for instructions from the Interior Ministry in case any assistance is needed in more specific issues such as food or clothing," added Minister Muñoz.
