Today, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, met with the Council of Former Foreign Ministers to analyze the different scenarios that are expected for tomorrow, the day that the International Court of Justice will give its ruling on the preliminary objection raised by Chile against the Bolivian demand.
"We have analyzed the work done by the Foreign Ministry and the legal team," said the Secretary of State after the meeting. "We have received strong support from former foreign ministers," remarked the national authority. "National unity has been expressed with respect to our country's objectives, which is to preserve territorial integrity, and which is not in play tomorrow," he added.
Minister Muñoz reiterated the confidence in Chile's arguments and said that "we are prepared for all scenarios," adding that "the key is to defend the sovereign rights of Chile, to defend territorial integrity and to defend the national interest."
The Foreign Minister also said that the former foreign ministers will be meeting again soon to discuss the ruling. "I know that I will continue to be able to count on the wise counsel of the ministers of the Council," he said.
The former foreign ministers who attended the meeting were Ignacio Walker, Alejandro Foxley, Soledad Alvear, Mariano Fernández, Carlos Figueroa, Alfredo Moreno, Miguel Schweizer and Hernán Felipe Errázuriz.
