Minister and Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs attended ecumenical ceremony in memory of victims of the 1973 Coup

Upon commemoration of the 41st anniversary of the 1973 Military coup, an inter-religious ceremony was held at La Moneda Palace to pay tribute to former president Salvador Allende and his collaborators. The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz and the Vice-Minister, Edgardo Riveros, along with all State Ministers. The service was headed by the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, who was accompanied by the Chairwoman of the Senate, Isabel Allende and the family of the former President in addition to all State Ministers. The prayer, which was held at the Patio de Los Cañones of La Moneda Palace, was led by the Bishop of the Evangelical Church, Pastor Emiliano Soto; the Bishop of the Catholic Church, Monsignor Ignacio Ducasse and the Jewish Chaplain, Rabbi, Eduardo Waingortin, and was attended by former Presidents Eduardo Frei and Ricardo Lagos.

At the end of the ceremony, the Minister recalled "what many Chileans suffered: being prisoners, going through these times that were hard times, which we have fortunately left behind. But it is always important to remember, keep the memory, so that this never happens again."

Then, the Foreign Minister and other State Ministers moved to the monument of President Salvador Allende at Plaza de la Constitución.
