The Under-Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Edgardo Riveros, is in Brussels to participate in the 13th Committee of EU-Chile Association together with the Director General for the Americas of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Roland Schäfer. At the meeting, Riveros stressed the willingness of our country to move forward and that "we are in a very special stage of our partnership agreement. Our relationship has almost 13 years of institutional strength."
At the meeting, the main issues that will allow the implementation and modernization of the EU-Chile Association Agreement were discussed, and views were exchanged on regional and multilateral issues as well as opportunities for cooperation. Under-Secretary Riveros emphasized Chile's disposition to advance in different areas of our relationship with the EU.
The adoption of two decisions related to matters of direct transport and specific product standards were signed, which correspond to changes in regulations of the commercial part of the Association Agreement that were agreed upon by both parties.
Moreover, the Under-Secretary held a bilateral meeting with the Secretary General of the European External Action Service (EEAS), Alain Le Roy, with whom he discussed various issues of the bilateral and multilateral agenda.
The Chilean delegation accompanying the national authority in Belgium is comprised of Ambassador of Chile to the European Union, Carlos Appelgren; Director General for Bilateral Affairs, José Manuel Silva; Executive Director of the Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AGCID), Ricardo Herrera; Director of Bilateral Economic Affairs of the Directorate General of International Economic Relations (DIRECON), Pablo Urria; and Advisor and Executive Director of the National Commission for Scientific and Technological Research (CONICYT), Patricio Espinoza.
Tomorrow, the Under-Secretary will continue his agenda in Brussels and will meet with the Vice-President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, and the President of the European Parliament delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly (EUROLAT), Ramón Jáuregui Atondo.
