Chilean president Michelle Bachelet participated in the XXII APEC Leaders Summit, with Chilean Foreign Minister Heraldo Muñoz accompanying the Head of State in her activities.
During the morning, the President and the Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of China, Mr. Li Keqiang.
Following the meeting, President Bachelet participated in the inauguration of the APEC CEO Summit 2014, where she was part of the inaugural panel.
President Bachelet stressed the economic and social benefits derived from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation, which was formed in 1989. She added that the partnership "may open the way to take on the challenges facing our ever-growing economies, particularly, while maintaining an inclusive and sustainable progress".
President Bachelet also talked about the importance of Asia to Latin America economies. "We are actively promoting new mechanisms of integration between Asia-Pacific and Latin America, aspiring to become a bridge between the two regions. With Mexico, Colombia and Peru we are making progress in the construction of the Pacific Alliance, with integrated securities markets and free flow of goods, services and people; a platform for interaction between Latin America and Asia-Pacific," she said.
During the afternoon, the President held a bilateral meeting with the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.
