On Tuesday March 1, 2016, in a ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of Chile to the United Nations in New York, the Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations, Ambassador Cristian Barros Melet, and the Permanent Representative of the Central African Republic, Ambassador Ambroisine Kpongo, signed an Agreement establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On the occasion, the Permanent Representative of Chile appreciated the establishment of diplomatic relations, with both countries wishing to develop and strengthen ties of friendship and cooperation. Ambassador Barros highlighted that the participation of Chilean Armed Forces officers in the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) responds not only to Chile's commitment to peace and international security, but it is a first step to expanding ties between the two countries in different areas.
This new official link established with the Central African Republic reflects the interest of Chile to deepen their outreach and presence in Africa by promoting political dialogue, trade and exploring South-South cooperation initiatives in areas of mutual interest.
