President Bachelet appoints new Chilean ambassadors to China and Iran

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heraldo Muñoz, informed that the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, appointed two new Chilean ambassadors abroad, who have already received the respective approvals. They are Jaime Chomalí Garib in the People's Republic of China and Hugo Ignacio Llanos Mardones in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

Jaime Chomalí Garib


Ambassador Chomalí is a career diplomat, graduated from the Chilean Diplomatic Academy "Andrés Bello". He studied Law at the University of Chile and graduated in Juridical Sciences at the University of Alcalá de Henares. He has held positions at the Embassies of Chile in Spain, Italy, France and Brazil. He currently serves as our country's Ambassador to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has worked in the Consular Legal Department and in the Cabinet of the Undersecretary. He has also been diplomatic coordinator of the Ministry of Public Works and the Presidency.

 

Hugo Ignacio Llanos Mardones

 

Lawyer and Bachelor of Law from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He is a graduate of the Andrés Bello Diplomatic Academy and holds a PhD in International Public Law from the Institute of Advanced International Studies at the University of Geneva. He has been Visiting Researcher at Harvard Law School.

He has held positions at the Permanent Mission of Chile to the International Organizations based in Geneva, at the Embassies of Chile in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom and at the Permanent Mission of Chile to the United Nations in New York.

He was Alternate Permanent Representative to the International Maritime Organization and Political Coordinator of Chile in the United Nations Security Council.

In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has served as Head of the United Nations Department and Head of the Security Council Unit. Since July 2015 he has been Director of Multilateral Policy.
