Chile is elected vice-president of the United Nations Human Rights Council

The United Nations Human Rights Council elected Chile as one of its Vice-Presidents for the period 2018-2019, representing the Latin American and Caribbean Group. The position will be assumed by the Permanent Representative of Chile to the United Nations, other international organizations and the Geneva-based Conference on Disarmament, Marta Mauras.

During this period, the Human Rights Council will be chaired by Slovenia. The other vice-presidencies will be taken over by Germany, Rwanda and the Philippines.

The Human Rights Council is composed of 47 members and aims to strengthen the promotion and protection of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights throughout the world.

The election of Chile is a recognition of the work done by our country in defending the strengthening of the system for the promotion and protection of human rights.
