Minister (S) Edgardo Riveros receives Minister of State of Japan

The Minister (S) of Foreign Affairs, Edgardo Riveros, received today in audience the Minister of State for Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan, Toshiei Mizuochi, who is visiting our country as a way to strengthen the relationship in these areas which are of special bilateral significance.

The Ministers agreed that the exchange of knowledge and experience in human capital formation, science and technology, as well as in natural disaster risk management, has led to important achievements, including progress in the joint research project "Enhancing Technology to Develop a Tsunami Resilient Community" under the SATREPS (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development) programme.

Both authorities also stressed the importance of cooperation in Astronomy, emphasizing the high value of the ALMA observatory project, in which Japan participates, and whose facilities Minister Mizouchi will visit during his stay in Chile.

In the field of cooperation in Sports, Minister Mizuochi highlighted the holding of the Nikkei International Sports Fellowship Games, an event that will gather for the first time in Santiago more than a thousand Japanese descendants from all of Latin America and that will be inaugurated next February 9.
