Minister Moreno bids farewell to Ambassadors who will assume new duties

This morning, Foreign Minister Alfredo Moreno bade farewell to six of the seven Ambassadors who have been assigned to new functions to represent Chile abroad.

The Ambassadors who will travel promptly to their postings are Milenko Skoknic, Argentina;  Rodrigo Gaete, Czech Republic; Jose Miguel de la Cruz, the Arab Republic of Egypt; José Luis Balmaceda as representative of Chile to the  United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organizations; Fernando Barreda,  the  Dominican Republic;  Francisco Bernales, the State of Palestine; and Flavio Tarsetti, Panama.

"Today we are appointing seven Ambassadors; three of them were Minister-Counselors. This is no coincidence, it is the result of the work we have done to maintain 80 percent of career Ambassadors," said the Foreign Minister.

Minister Moreno highlighted the appointment of Ambassador Milenko Skoknic to Argentina, which he described as a significant event, as it will be a career diplomat who will lead the Chilean mission in that country. In this regard, he stressed that during the government of President Piñera "for the first time in history, we have all our embassies in South America covered by staff and people coming from a diplomatic career."

For his part, the current Chef de Cabinet and Ambassador to Argentina, Milenko Skoknic, thanked the President of Chile and the Foreign Minister for his appointment and called on those present not to forget the principles of public service. "The fulfillment of duty, always ensuring in each of our activities that we are serving the country, at the service of Chile's foreign policy. Being an Ambassador is another function, not a special privilege," said Ambassador Skoknic.

Finally, Minister Moreno thanked the work carried out by each of the Ambassadors in the various directorates were they served and wished them every success in their functions.
