Chile assumes its responsibility as an emerging donor based on the principles of South-South cooperation, rather than from a traditional development aid perspective. In other words, Chile supports local appropriation and adaptation of development policies or programs by the countries that have asked to learn about our experience in a particular area. Second, projects are designed and implemented jointly by both countries, respecting the partner country´s needs, interests and culture. Initiatives may take the form of projects or more specific, short-term actions. Third, learning is mutual and beneficial to both public and private stakeholders. Fourth, these initiatives are focused on areas in which Chile has recognized strengths and value-added, such as social policies, institutional strengthening and productive development.
