The Chilean Government strongly condemns the killing of at least 50 people in a shooting that occurred last night in a nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

As noted today by the President of the Republic, Michelle Bachelet, violence and terror, whatever their origin, have no place in free and diverse societies like the United States and Chile.

Chile, as a country that defends and promotes human rights, will continue to drive multilateral actions in order to give visibility to and protect the rights of all people, without the fear of violence and discrimination due to their politics, religious convictions, gender, sexual identity or any other cause.

The Chilean government would like to convey to the government and the people of the United States, and especially to the families of the victims, its deepest feelings of sympathy and solidarity.
