Chile expresses concern over U. S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel
The Chilean Government expresses its deep concern at the decision of the United States Government to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
The Government of Chile, in line with the United Nations resolutions, considers Jerusalem to be a city with special status whose sovereignty must be resolved by Israel and Palestine; and considers the Israeli occupation and control of East Jerusalem to be illegal.
The Chilean Government, aware of the political, historical and religious significance of Jerusalem, urgently calls on all parties involved to reconsider or refrain from taking decisions that could incite hatred and violence, further hindering a process leading to a two-State solution and a sustainable peace between Palestine and Israel.
