The Environment and Oceanic Issues Direction from the Chancellery, alongside the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) organized, on July 27, a Workshop on the development of Oceanic Policy, on which international experts accounted for the development of the topic in countries such as Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Argentina and Peru. There were also presentations by the Army's Strategic Studies Centre; the Oceanic NGO; Sonapesca and the Millennial Institute of Oceanography.

The meeting had the purpose of monitoring Chile's commitment of creating an Oceanic Policy, which was undertaken in the UN Conference on Oceans and Coats in June, and was recently put into motion by a Council of Ministers especially devoted to it. Ambassador Isauro Torres, Director of the Environmental and Oceanic Issues Department of the Chancellery, referred to the importance that the new Oceanic Policy in Chile "takes into consideration natural concerns and priorities such as economy or security, as well as international definitions such as the ones proposed by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)".

The workshop allowed for the participant countries to present their experience in similar policies, with the objective of providing resources for the process Chile is undertaking.
